Economic Prosperity Has Always Been the Goal
For nearly two decades, tnAchieves has helped Tennessee students navigate the journey from high school to college, from college to graduation and, increasingly, from graduation to a meaningful career. What began as a local idea has become a statewide model built on a simple conviction: opportunity only matters when students can turn it into lasting economic prosperity.
It Started With Access
tnAchieves is more than programs. We represent a student-centered continuum, driving economic prosperity for Tennessee students by Building Tennessee’s Future Workforce.
Our work began with access. We believed every student, regardless of income, zip code or background, deserved a clear and affordable path beyond high school. This belief helped build Tennessee Promise and continues to shape our statewide work and local innovations, including Knox Access and MemAccess.
Opening the Door Was Never Enough
The data showed us that economically disadvantaged students were far less likely to graduate without continued support. Students did not simply need help getting into college; they needed someone walking beside them through the moments when financial pressures, academic challenges and life circumstances could pull them away.
So tnAchieves evolved. We built COMPLETE, Knox Promise and MemCOMPLETE to provide the proactive coaching and financial support students need to persist and graduate.
Graduation Cannot Be the Finish Line
Today, tnAchieves students are completing college at the highest three-year rate in our history, representing an eight-percentage-point increase in only two years. That progress matters. But graduation cannot be the finish line.
Nearly two-thirds of our graduates tell us they need help navigating the workforce. They have earned the credential. Now they need the relationships, experiences and confidence to translate it into a career that provides purpose, stability and opportunity.
Building the Bridge to Career
Once again, tnAchieves is responding. We are embedding workforce preparation into our coaching model, expanding Job Shadow Days, connecting students with Workforce Mentors and building stronger partnerships with employers across Tennessee. We are committed not only to helping students earn credentials, but also to ensuring those credentials lead somewhere meaningful.
Access opens the door. COMPLETE changes the trajectory. A strong career creates prosperity that can extend across families and generations.
Not Finished Yet
This is the tnAchieves story: a belief that became a scholarship and mentoring program, data that became a coaching and completion grant model and student voices that continue to shape what comes next.
We are proud of how far Tennessee has come. But we are not finished.
Our ambition is to build the nation's strongest and most complete pathway from high school to college, through graduation and into the workforce – at a scale that not only defines tnAchieves but more importantly changes what is possible for students and for our state.
Because when tnAchieves students prosper, Tennessee prospers.
